Life With Acne

Author: Patrick Noack

Living with acne is never easy, and many teenagers and adults struggle with coping. Acne is embarrassing, and can appear in mild, moderate, and sever cases. Sometimes individuals go through stages of having a great deal of acne at certain times, followed by periods of relatively little acne. It is rare for a person to escape adolescence without going through at least small period of acne. However, there are many ways to battle acne and deal with living with it. If you're faced with a zit or pimple, it's natural to want to either pop it, or to go crazy using acne medication on it. Refrain from doing either. Popping a zit is never a good idea, as it can cause scarring, and the oils and germs from your hand can further irritate the area and make it more red and more easily noticed than before. Do not wash your face with harsh medication more than the bottle indicates. If there are no specific instructions as to how many times you should wash your face, try not to do it more than once or twice each day. Overwashing your face, especially when using a face wash with a strong medication, can mean that your skin gets dried out very quickly, which can make your skin peel. In turn, your skin will produce more oil which will further clog your pores and cause acne. In the meantime, you will be equally displeased with your pealing, dry skin. Apply acne medication as directed, be patient, and try not to irritate your acne. The best way to deal with acne is to try to prevent it. Do your best to avoid touching your face, as the oils on your hands just clog pores. If you're a girl, be careful when selecting make up. Some types of make up are designed for acne prone skin. Make sure to select a foundation that will not clog pores, and make sure you do not cake the stuff on your face. It is also important to remove your make up every evening, as make up that is left on can also cause acne.

There are many wives' tales that suggest certain foods cause acne. This is largely not the case. However, some people do react to certain foods and may notice they are more prone to get acne after eating certain foods heavily. If you notice this, be sure to only eat those foods in moderation. One of the best ways to deal with living with acne is to celebrate your own unique beauty. Acne is a pain, but it's something that almost everyone struggles with. Spending time worrying about how you look won't make the acne go away, and the added stress might actually make you break out more. Instead, be happy for your traits that you do enjoy, and try not to let your mind dwell on your acne. If you can enjoy your life past the way your face and skin look, you will be well on your way to a happier and more confident outlook, and those around you will certainly take note.
