Before you buy a paraben free face moisturizer, take the time to find out what kind of preservative the manufacturer does use. It's an important thing to know.

Preservative free moisturizers are not available, because the products would have no shelf-life. They would need to be used immediately. A person who wanted to avoid preservatives completely would need to mix their own lotions, which can be done, but isn't the most popular alternative.

It is even better than tocopherol, which is the form of vitamin E you would be getting if you rubbed olive oil on your skin, for example. Who knew there were so many different forms of a single vitamin?

One advantage of Tocopheryl acetate over tocopherol is that the acetate form provides a longer shelf life. The tocopherol in a bottle of olive oil is more readily broken down by light. Something you might not be aware of is that olive oil actually has a pretty short shelf life, unless it is kept in a dark cool environment; not out on the table at room temperature.

Another advantage of a paraben free face moisturizer containing Tocopheryl acetate is that the compound is not oxidized. It retains all of its antioxidant activity. It can penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin where it can actually be regenerated and provide some protection against the sun's UV rays. UV rays of sunlight are a major cause of skin aging.
